Design Conceptualization
St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church is located at 19767 Yorba Linda Blvd., Yorba Linda, California. As indicated by Fr. Sy Nguyen, its pastor, the church sanctuary should depict the Roman ambience of the Vatican. Therefore, the concept was to make use of marble stones to decorate its altars basing it from the merging of Baroque and Renaissance style movement. The “reredos” or the back altar would have been the monstrance of the Holy Eucharist held by two cherubs. Iconic images of archangels Sts. Michael and Gabriel decorate the two side panels. The tabernacle of the Holy Eucharist is prominently situated right below the monstrance. The side openings were treated with a Tuscan colonnade to blend well with the church back altar. The “coram populo” or the front altar of sacrifice is a 3’-4” x 8’-0” marble table with symbolic bas reliefs: lamb of God (center), bleeding pelican (left), and tree of life (right); depicting Jesus Christ.
